Upgrade Set for AE'89 IFMAR Masami Replica
Description:
This set is specifically adapted as an upgrade set by applying our GP3D '89 version geometries and design to the newly release Team Associated '89 IFMAR Masami kit.
The AE kit is complete and looks pretty awesome overall :-) however on closer inspection there are a range of purist and fundamental handling issues that we have resolved with this "GP3D upgrade set".
Note: You can of course make your own home mods or wait for AE/others to possibly release option parts, plus this set is just another option for you depending on what you are seeking!
Our Summary of perceived and identified issues with the standard AE kit:
- Chassis "should" be Carbon in kit (my opinion, but less profitable for a business of course)
- Gearbox casing is an incorrect 'production Stealth' type, should be proto design
- Front bulkhead/rear arm mounts should look/be more like the og machined nylon/delrin?/white material (visual issue only)
- Rear arm has zero outboard toe-in, should be 3deg - BIG handling issue!
- Rear track width is too narrow
- Gearbox cover design doesn't have og recess causing Rear right arm up travel to collide!
- Geometry issue with rear shock bottoming out too early (I'm not sure exactly what the exact measurements/geometry/issue is, just the resulting problem)
- Front Arms are way too short (maybe 6 or 7mm each side!) - this causes multiple issues; falling rate/pitch is exaggerated even more than the deliberate original, hence the turnbuckles perceived as too long, are actually correct, the short arm is the issue. A second arm shock mounting hole (+5~6mm out) whilst not exactly og transforms the front end behaviour without compromising the replica character.
Select option:
- GP3D Plastics Upgrade Set; includes
- GP3D Replica proto Gearbox Casing
- GP3D Pseudo replica Steering Bell cranks;
- slightly less og replica, but designed to be more robust, ball raced, but still give the og looks
- Bezerk Carbon chassis;
- as per our existing GP3D/Bezerk game changing collaboration 30 degree kick-up carbon replica chassis - but in the design/shape for the AE kit compatibility!
GP3D Plastics Upgrade Set includes:
-
Rear Arms (have outboard 3deg toe-in)
-
Rear Arm Mounts (lower roll-centre, OG zero toe)
-
Rear Uprights (strong and insets the inner bearing slightly to help avoid CVD dislodging from diff outdrive)
- Rear inner Titanium Hinge pins 2x 51mm (slot-to-slot) with circlips
-
Rear outer Titanium Hinge pins 2x 29mm (slot-to-slot) with circlips (the AE kit provides longer than the OG, not sure why?!
-
Rear TH-1 style Yok wheel adapter (wider offset for wheels, captive pin)
-
Front Arms (longer, improved shock mounting positions and geometry)
Note: Parts are 3D printed, with undersized hinge pin holes - please drill/ream to suit the 1/8" hinge pins ensuring free movement of all suspension parts once all installed. Parts can also be trimmed and sanded to remove any rough supported edges and print excess. I have found 240 grit sand paper works great to smooth and finish, if desired.
